This outreach programme engages children's interest in maths and stats in rural Canterbury and West Coast communities. It provides rich and innovative maths activities based on the New Zealand Curriculum using Dragonistics data cards. The programme is supported by the New Zealand Government's Unlocking Curious Minds fund.

The events will be held at schools and are designed for up to 60 Year 3-8 students and their teachers. The rich activities are suitable for students working at any curriculum level.

The Statistics Learning Centre team run the events. Support is provided to empower teachers to provide similar learning experiences for their students.

More details of the events.

To help teachers support teachers, we set up the NZRichMaths Facebook group. Teachers can share their ideas and experiences, ask questions of their collegues and support each other through the group. While initially focussed on schools involved in the Rich Maths events, we are happy for any New Zealand teachers to join the group.

The programme will run events at up to 30 rural schools in Canterbury and the West Coast.

We are pleased to report that our Rich Maths events at North Loburn School and Hanmer Springs School were a resounding successes.

We have up-coming events at Sefton School, Ladbrooks School, Barrytown School, Runanga School, Awahono School - Grey Valley, Reefton Area School, and Little River School.
